Using your cursor, select a segment of the music that is only noise. You should keep the default settings to avoid removing important audio events. If the audio sounds okay, click "OK" to remove any obvious clicks in the audio.
Listen to the audio by using the "Preview" function. If the recording is not from a vinyl recording, skip to Step 3. Select the "Click Removal" option under the effects menu if you are editing an audio file that was obtained from a vinyl recording. Start Audacity and import the file you would like to improve by dragging it to the main work window pane or by using the import option located under the file menu of the program. However, it is possible to significantly improve the sound of a recording by following a simple process. Even professional music editors can't remove every trace of static in all recordings. Depending on the level of static, it may not be possible to remove all crackling and popping. To remove the static using Audacity, you will have to follow a few basic steps to locate, identify and eventually eliminate the static. Static in an audio file is never appreciated.
